neal purchase jnr's take on kirra in 2009
I was really stoked when I heard that Rhythm had confirmed support for the Kirra teams challenge, cause it's a great gathering of surfers from all over the country and carries a lot of history.
Coming from Kirra Board-riders I surfed in this event a bunch of times and always had a great time
So I met up with John Robin at his office in Kirra surf club to discuss the graphic for the contest. He had all the posters from previous years on the wall and was cool to check em all out
There were some classic old Head Worx posters , and most had the Iconic Iron Eagle somewhere on them.
I was thinking I could use the eagle but it's kinda ugly, and there's been heaps of shit going on with Kirra Point so I thought it was a great opportunity to say something through the graphic.

Kirra was a world class wave and attracted the worlds best surfers. It was better than the Super Bank, a lot cleaner and more perfectly predictable. Now it's a huge straight beach with a closeout.
There's been a joke going around that kirra looks like the Sahara Desert and the best ride you could have is a camel ride on the beach, hence the camels and close out for the 2010 poster.
It kinda documents where we are at with Kirra. Hopefully they will extend the big groin one day and the beach will erode away and we will have Kirra back.
